Alek Wek is a world-renowned South Sudanese-British supermodel, designer, and humanitarian who fundamentally transformed global beauty standards in the fashion industry. Born on 16 April 1977 in Wau, Sudan (now South Sudan), she rose to international prominence in the mid-1990s after fleeing the Sudanese civil war. She is celebrated for breaking barriers as one of the first mainstream dark-skinned African models to achieve elite status on global runways.
